Physical body manipulation, like massage, has been known for centuries to improve health. It pushes out waste products from the muscles and organs. It cleans the lymphatic drainage channels, the veins and capillaries and a lot of the fluid spaces in the muscles. So it thereby also increases blood and immune cell circulation, and brings in new, fresh blood, with oxygen and food, to the whole body. Body touching also stimulates nerve function and it creates growth hormones, which also helps the immune system. With the unique Structural Integration system we can get waste products out of the deeper layers of the body that most massages can’t reach, and we can actually re-open the tissues so there are bigger channels for the blood, lymph and immune cells to flow in. This special kind of body manipulation can actually change the shape of the body in a very short time – we can re-lengthen, and de-compress, the tightness and tension our bodies have accumulated. Most people, even doctors and massage therapists, don’t realize we’ve all accumulated so much shortness and tightness, for months and even years. And this “compression,” and “clog-up,” not only causes metabolic problems, it causes movement and pain problems as well. Chronic, built-up shortness, develops in the “soft connective tissue system” of the body, and it causes many people chronic pains. This is especially true in the low or middle back, in the shoulders and in the neck. Various kinds of sports injuries, and their inability to heal fast, are also caused by this kind of shortness. Yet, for over 40 years, this kind of re-lengthening system has indeed corrected many kinds of chronic pain and stiffness, and helped injuries to heal better, even when other kinds of therapies have failed, including surgery, repeated massage and chiropractic. And it routinely removes lots of stress. It can make these improvements in a matter of hours because it is re-lengthening and un-bunching the soft connective tissue element, that almost all other therapies do not address. Structural Integration Bodywork is not a massage, and it is nothing like chiropractic or acupressure. It is a special kind of hands-on manipulation of this soft connective tissue system. It was scientifically developed by a PhD physiologist-biochemist over 40 years ago and is now practiced by thousands of school trained body therapists in many countries around the world. It is becoming more and more well known. And it’s now worthwhile to learn about it.
This booklet will tell
you what our body structures are actually made of, how they start
operating in a problematic way, and how we can improve them so they
operate much better. |
